(25) Monday -
We went over to Candi's house and there was a great little dinner party. They had spring-roll style make your own wraps, with that super sticky strong but thin spring-roll material using hot water it then transforms from a plastic disc into a usable wrap. Thinking too much about that a bit too much. It was tasty, inside was carrots, and cabbage or might have been lettuce, some noodles and sauce and tomatoes... good food. THere was cake, and candy (I brought those because I forgot to buy the cookie dough, DOH.) Hm.. I think that was it. We hung out with Candi's boyfriend and had a small chat... He is Scottish pretty funny.
Dennis crashed at my place and we watched movies and joked around all night.
(26) Tuesday - I think this is the Day Dennis went to Millenium caves. I just hung out at the house pretty much all day. Then he and I watched movies... Rick and Morty, Zombieland, some zoolander. Great night.
Mr. Dennis make a great factoid about how people drop much of the proper pronunciation of words by dropping the T ad the end of words with no vowel before the t usually making a "de" sound instead. Pretty funny, seems kind of right.
(27) Wednesday - Three days almost four with no internet, means I fell behind in my blog. I will try and backfill starting from today, at 6:03pm. Well when it went down i tried a bonehead idea, use the reset feature and put it back to factory defaults and start from scratch. I never had the right password to get authorized by digicel, so that basically killed all hopes to reconnect.
Dennis took off today. Made some oatmeal pancakes, his idea, pretty damn good... We watched A Fish called wanda. He liked it as one should... great movie. He learned 1979 and got the tab and lyrics down. Success number two because that is an excellent song and has had some long staying power of listening appeal for me and if that in part means now others are reminded of this fact then great.
After Dennis left I worked in the lab updating all the PC's applying security patches and so on... making sure everything was running smoothly. I would I am about 90% percent done, have to finish tomorrow. Went into town... got some EGGS... BAM. 12 of them!!! That is a huge score during an egg shortage. And some bacon and hamburger meat and bread, plus a magnum ice cream original bar, that was a great purchase too.
>>>
Now I can go forward, at 6:39pm, I remember running into Mike Hawkings as I got groceries...
Then Mike looking over my purchases said, "I'm never feeling sorry for you going broke again... Dam... 12 eggs, Meat..." Something like that... which is totally right. I know...
I admit my most recurring weakness is food. I can't help it. I never have been so hungry for my food back home in all my life. I think my body is still in shock that I have to prepare most of what I eat as well. But I am better a little bit every month. I no longer get ice cream on the weekends and I only bought ready-whip once.
Then I had digicel come over and fix my internet, and hence this new posting. Yeah I used the word hence. I feel it is a fun word very under used so I am trying to help bring it back. Ok first updating going now.. then working on backfilling other posts.
(28) Thursday -
Today I got to skype with folks... ate some pancakes... and bacon so good. My mom was upset about my brothers ex wife. But my mom is getting really good at setting some rules and not getting pushed around. Thankful for that.
Today I hope to help Samantha build some shelves. So we are going to Santo Hardware or Wilco and get some lumber then put together some shelves.
We just had a really big earthquake, biggest I ever felt... made my house shake, microwave almost fell off the fridge. I had a hard time standing. It was pretty wild. I called Rich and just wanted to see if he felt it too... he said What earthquake paused for a second then laughed, saying it was the largest he felt. That now we wait to see if there will be a tsunami warning.
(29) Friday -
Baby docs are having a going away party at aqua... but they invited me to go to an island and hangout for the day. I am going to miss them.
--------The next day...
So I went to Aore Island. It was great. The baby docs that went were: Patrica, Nina, Vikki, Jo, George, Danny.
I took some photos:
It was their going away day as well. Most are going to board a plane tomorrow and return to their university in Leeds...
Oh few more photos when we landed and walked past the WW2 buildings.
There was a get together at Deco Stop for happy hour. I went home from the beach and then changed and headed over to meet them. We all talked and ate some happy hour apps... it was great. I think they went out to Aqua but I was mostly too broke to go so I headed home.
(30) Saturday -
Spent a couple hours cleaning and slowly waking up.
After getting supplies and things in town I got word from my friend Sigrid Burg. She's from Holland and first mate on a small ship working on environmental projects like removing crown of thorns from the reefs, and her friend Michael a Polish guy that also working the ship. They have been stranded here in luganville on their way to the Solomon Islands, because their ship's pumps are damaged and it has some leaks in the hull as well. I invited them over to my grilling party. We planned to meet in town at Attar Cafe. I went there and sat with Jes for a bit, she was drowning in VAN AM submissions... a good problem she says. When she left I just walked up and down the sidewalk waiting. So I saw a fish stand and asked to see them. They seemed like pretty cool people so i started helping them sell off their fish, mostly walking dancing and yelling FISH FISH FISH... and 30 minutes later they were pretty much sold out of fish. They offered me a piece of Shark as thank you... I just said I had fun selling their fish.
Then Sigrid showed up and we walked towards my site. We stopped at the Daming Store and they bought a half kilo of mince meat, Sigrid and Mike wanted some beer and a ice cream bar so I took off on my bike and sent them in the direction of my school... and grabbed her some VB's and Magnum ice cream. I even beat them to my school and we just chilled and watched some Rick and Morty. I think of Rick and Morty as a measuring stick these days, those that laugh at it, and those that don't. I prefer those who find that humor funny.
After a bit Rich showed up and Bryan and Kate, Jes, Mike Stafford... and the grilling was in full swing. I prepped the onions and the potatoes and started toasting the buns. Then I mixed up the meat and made the patties but Bryan was the grillmaster last night... he did a great job.
We played Apples to Apples after (not sure why the font changed don't care) |
That was about it... I stayed up a few more hours and played Faster Than Light and beat the big boss... pretty epic and I unlocked a new ship the Federation Cruiser. Missing Mr. Dennis because he would have stayed up until 1 or 2am like me. I wish I had a drum set... maybe next year. If I can't smash walls and build crap at the soap factory, I wish I had a drum kit to hit on.
(31) Sunday -
The dogs... I am getting pretty sick of them here. They bark all the time at night. I was lucky for a while there seemed to be zero around... but now a pack moved in. I saw one limping around when I tossed my trash, if that is the one that was behind all the crazy barking I hope he shuts it tonight. I got a good hour of sleep. Less than my average 4 hours. I feel ok though. I might try and sleep now except the neighbors are scrubbing clothing... probably one of the worst noises is the sound of SHHH-SHH-SHH for 4 hours. Makes me wish I could turn off my ears like the volume on my laptop, so instead I just crank music to blow away all the noise.
It's Sunday... man Sundays in Luganville suck. There is nothing to do. All the shops are closed and nobody does anything interesting. So Good time to blog or clean up the mess from the party last night. Mostly done with that, getting the grease off the cook surface is a pain. I don't have a steel brush yet. I need one badly.
There was another earthquake at 2:18pm... about a 4.5 huh... you can see these as the happen here: http://earthquaketrack.com/p/vanuatu/recent
Watched Harry Potter maybe I miss the baby docs...or whatever. But I just had a small coke float and since all the ice cream which was not much was starting to melt (and no ice cream last in my fridge for more than one day) I decided to share the majority of what was left of that ice cream with my Ni-van neighbors kids... they smiled more than I have seen them in a very long time. They never have had a coke float in their whole lives or even heard of them. That was pretty fun to see them happy.
